Mike Aziz, AIA, LEED AP is the Director of Urban Design. His background includes over 15 years of award-winning work in urban design, campus planning, and computational design. Mike first joined Cooper Robertson in 2008 and recently became partner. He played a principal role on a number of the firm’s significant projects, including the Research Triangle Park Master Plan, the Hunters Point/Candlestick Point Streetscape and Public Realm Plan, the Longwood University Master Plan, and a large private sector mixed-use development on the Brooklyn Waterfront.

Mike is also a leader in New York City’s planning community. He currently serves on the steering committee for the AIANY Planning and Urban Design committee, and is a member of several other advisory groups focused on waterfront planning, water quality, and resilience.

Mike will be an adjunct planning professor at Bard College in the fall of 2018 and has been a critic and guest lecturer at Yale University, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania and New York Institute of Technology. He also authored the book, “Reshaping Gentrification: An Urban Design Proposal for the Redevelopment of Columbia Heights”, which was released by VDM Publishers in 2010.

Prior to assuming his role as Cooper Robertson’s Director of Urban Design, Mike was a studio leader and senior associate at Perkins+Will, where he directed large-scale planning efforts and numerous public and private campus plans. A graduate of the University of Maryland and Savannah College of Art and Design, he is a registered architect in New York and a LEED Accredited Professional.

Mike was recently selected for 2019 BD+C 40 Under 40 list of leaders in the design and construction industry.
