Windsor Beach Club
Windsor Beach Club
The Windsor Beach Club was commissioned by Lord Galin Weston as the beachfront anchor for Windsor, his 416-acre resort community on a lush barrier island between Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean.
The high two-story rectangular building with a prominent Dutch gambrel roof marks the main ocean access point of the resort. Sited perpendicular to the beach, it provides views to the ocean and over the pool and cabana areas. Cocktail and dining rooms under the high ceiling of the second floor open to a wide porch. A front hall, gaming room, and back-of-house areas are on the ground floor.
The architectural language of the building reflects Caribbean building traditions with its rich mix of English, Dutch, and Spanish influences. While the ground floor is stucco over block, a solid protective base, the second floor is wood with wide overhanging eaves to reduce glare and keep water away from the club’s porches and walls.
