• Laurel Island Master Plan

    Camden County, Georgia

One of the last undeveloped parcels on the Eastern Seaboard, this 150-acre island off the southern coast of Georgia offered the opportunity to design a resort community with abundant scenic features (marshes, waterways, and barrier islands) while preserving the island's natural beauty. On 100 acres will be 700 residential units, some on single-family estate lots and others as cottages and attached units in two village centers. The villages, with a meeting house/chapel, inn, restaurants, and boutique shops, have access to marinas and both a river and beach club on a neighboring island. The remaining 50 acres in the middle of the island will be left untouched as a pristine nature preserve with 18,000 feet of walking trails. Sustainable features such as permeable road and path surfaces, "dark-sky" lighting requirements, local wood for construction, geothermal energy, a solar power farm, and tidal power are all part of the community's aim to be completely energy self-sufficient.
