The renovation of four floors of The New School's 1906 loft building was done in two phases. Phase I on the seventh floor included the design of 16,000 square feet of classrooms, faculty offices, and three art studios with large windows on the perimeter of the floor for Parsons School of Design. The second phase of work was on the ninth, tenth, and eleventh floors where each floor was given a distinct character to clearly identify different academic departments and functions. A variety of classrooms (including one simulating a Wall Street trading floor) is unified by a central staircase that minimizes elevator use and by large common spaces that maximize social interaction.
