Cooper, Robertson developed the site plan and schematic design for this 140,000 square foot facility on a 45-acre site, located near the historic battlefield. The building accommodates a visitor center that hosts over 3 million visitors a year, as well as a museum, interpretive theaters, and the historic cyclorama painting, “The Battle of Gettysburg”. After a complete restoration, this painting can now be seen similar as it was in the 19th century from a viewing platform in a large round gallery. The project also included a museum store, dining, administrative offices, a research library, archives, and collection storage. The project was completed under a design-build delivery process and the building opened in 2008.
