In 1995, Cooper, Robertson did a needs analysis for MoMA which led to a detailed program for expansion, setting the stage for the comprehensive new design of the museum. The ambitious scope included a thirty-year horizon and the result impacted the very nature of the museum experience, the character of the work place, and the role of both technology and education at the Museum. Cooper, Robertson also drew up architectural guidelines for a ten-architect design competition resulting in the selection of Yoshio Taniguchi as design architect at which point the firm's role expanded to include design advising while continuing to refine programming and organize the exhibit and storage space needs during construction. Part of this was our design of MoMA QNS.
