Robertson Scholars Building is designed to achieve a LEED-Platinum certification. Located on an urban infill site, the 12,000 square foot structure will house the renowned scholars program at UNC Chapel Hill. Traditional Georgian details, in keeping with the historic setting, are designed with materials that are either reclaimed, rapidly renewable, or contain a high recycled content. Photovoltaic panels are integrated into the roof, which is made of zinc to reduce the heat island effect. An innovative courtyard with a micro-misting, vegetated wall creates a comfortable outdoor microclimate and provides irrigation to regional endangered fern species.
