Cooper, Robertson's plan for Thomas Jefferson's Monticello improves visitor transportation to the mountaintop site, implements the Foundation's interpretative plan, and restores the Jefferson-owned land. The work included programming, master planning, and pre-schematic design detailing the removal of certain modern structures and activities from the historic precinct. Programming and siting for the construction of numerous new facilities (including a new visitor's center with exhibition and assembly space, conservation labs and collection storage, and new administration and education buildings) was also part of the overall site and facilities plan.
