    Gallery Reinstallation Plan

    Chicago, Illinois

Cooper, Robertson completed a Master Plan for major renovation and in-fill projects for the Museum's galleries in coordination with the expansion into the new Modern Wing. Encompassing 200,000 square feet of space, the study included galleries, public circulation and event spaces, the library, collection storage, and a curatorial study center. Since all work will be done while the museum remains open and none of the collection will be moved off-site, Copper, Robertson developed a detailed phasing plan to figure out how all the renovations and the new Modern Wing could happen without disruption to the Museum or the collection. A detailed cost estimate also helped plan scope, schedule, and budget. Renovations clarify public circulation and the visitor experience. In some places, the plan reveals historic sections of the building covered by earlier additions as well as voids in the current complex that might be filled with expansion gallery space.
