Incorporating traditional town design principles, sustainability, and the use of local materials, Cooper, Robertson's master plan at Juniper Ridge is currently under construction. When completed, this public/private project will contain a diverse mixture of uses, including two town centers, walkable neighborhood shopping areas, office and light industrial, a university district, and 8,000 residential units. The natural landscape creates the organizing framework for the plan. Irrigation canals traversing the site are transformed into public greenways, while lava ridges and old-growth junipers are carefully preserved within the open space system and streets are oriented toward views of nearby volcanic peaks. The civic and cultural heart of the community is a new town lake where the library, the university, the town center, and the Central Oregon Cultural Center are clustered.
