John Kirk, AIA

Partner

John Kirk, AIA, has led master planning efforts for town centers, campuses, and new communities. He has also served as partner-in- charge and designer for a range of carefully conceived and finely crafted educational, residential, resort, club, and specialty building projects. He joined Cooper Robertson in 1989, became a partner in the firm in 2000, and is a member of the firm’s management committee.

John has recently led the Longwood University Master Plan in Farmville, Virginia, the master plan and design for Lyford Cay International School in the Bahamas, the River District Master Plan in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the master plan and architectural design for Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville, Virginia. At his alma mater, the University of Virginia, he designed two building projects. John’s residential work includes houses in East Hampton, Bridgehampton, Southampton, upstate New York, Charlottesville, Celebration, WaterSound, Santo Domingo, and Montego Bay. He also designed two award-winning showcase homes for Southern Accents and led resort and club projects in Maryland, Ohio, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, and the Dominican Republic. In 2014, Architectural Digest named him to the AD 100, alongside former partners Edward Siegel and Jaque Robertson.

Prior to joining Cooper Robertson, John worked at design firms in Atlanta, New Jersey, and Venice, Italy and was an Associate Professor of Design at the University of Virginia. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Virginia, and studied at the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, France. He is a registered architect in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, and Colorado.
